Bruidsfotograaf Utrecht | Thijs & Charlotte’s bruiloft in de Metaal Kathedraal

Foodtrucks, lots of whisky, a heavy metal marching band (say what?!) and ofcourse an awesome couple that was obviously made for each other… Are you also curious to see this one of a kind wedding? 😉

When Charlotte emailed me about the plans for their big day, my heart skipped a beat. The Metaal Kathedraal! A wedding venue that has been on my wishlist for a long time was the place where they decided to celebrate their love. After a lovely meeting with Thijs and Charlotte they booked me as their wedding photographer. Wohoo! I was beyond excited. And this wedding was just as cool as I had hoped. They didn’t miss a detail. I could really notice that the couple has been planning this special day for a long time. Charlotte’s amazing dress is from Rue de Seine and she was lucky to find it in the Netherlands, after she had allready tried it on once when she was on tour (she is the lead singer from the metal band Delain) abroad. So I could imaginge she was glad that she found her dreamdress in Nijmegen in the new store Wild at Heart Bridal. It looked so amazing! The cool leather jacket with text on the back is a DIY project. So is the huge macramé behind the cake, by the way. Yay for creative brides!  Thijs bought his cool suit at New Tailor in Utrecht. And I love the color of his tie; green is such an original choice and it matched so well with everything. The amazing flowers were made by Judith Slagter. Sweet detail: Charlotte took a good look at the flowers her mom and mother in law had at their weddings, and she let Judith put some of the same flowers in her bouquet. It’s like a ‘something borrowed’.. I just love details like that.

The ceremony was just perfect with personal vows and breathtaking arrangements by Harrold Roeland, sung by the choir ‘Vlechtwerk’. After the ceremonie everybody went outside and it was time for some entertainment: Blaas of Glory played for us. I loved this so much!! This hevay metal marching band was something I have never ever seen before. They often play at festivals, but also behind the scenes as entertainment for the performers and artists. Charlotte has performed with Blaas of Glory together so that’s where she met them. And thats why they were super excited to rock a wedding, for just this one time! It was such a surprise for all the guests and everybody joined the party. My 2nd shooter Hendrik and me also walked around with huge smiles on our faces 🙂 As we expected, to food was also very good. There was this amazing hysterical pie made by Life of Pie. And ofcourse this pie was not just an everyday weddingcake: It contained the same Whisky that Charlotte used to propose to Thijs! Can you believe that?! The Whisky they used was a 10 years old Laphroaig “Laphroaig 10yo”. Some real heavy shit! (The bakers of Life of Pie said they were literally knocked of their socks when they opened the bottle that the couple sent them to use in the cake, haha!) Outside the foodtrucks were also ready to rumble while we took some photo’s together,  the guests got to enjoy the delicious food that was served. Salades and very special Vegan burgers from Rammenas and delicious pancakes (with chocolate, whipcream and strawberry’s – nommnomm!) from Spelty. The best Vega food in town!

Dear Thijs and Charlotte, I wish you both all the best! You are such an amazing couple and I loved every second of your big day!

Foodtrucks, heel veel whisky, een heavy metal marching band (say what?!) en natuurlijk een te gek bruidspaar dat hélemaal voor elkaar gemaakt is… Ben jij ook zo nieuwsgierig naar deze one of a kind wedding? 😉

Toen Charlotte mij mailde met hun plannen voor de grote dag maakte mijn hart meteen een sprongetje. De Metaal Kathedraal! Een locatie die al een hele tijd op mijn verlanglijstje stond was de plek waar zij hun liefde wilden vieren. Ik sprak af met Thijs en Charlotte en na een gezellig gesprek (en nog veel meer sprongetjes van mijn hart want zoveel gave plannen!) mocht ik de datum in mijn agenda schrijven. Op Pinterest kon ik al even wegdromen bij alle geweldige plannen. En ik kan één ding zeggen; het was écht minstens zo geweldig als ik had gehoopt! Aan ieder detail was gedacht, ik kon echt merken dat Thijs en Charlotte hier al super lang mee bezig waren. Charlotte had haar prachtige jurk van Rue de Seine na lang zoeken gelukkig in Nederland gevonden, nadat ze hem tijdens een tour (ze is zangeres van de band metalband Delain) in het buitenland al eens had gepast. Maar zo’n jurk in het buitenland kopen is dan toch wel weer heel erg spannend! Dus wat een geluk dat ze haar droomjurk uiteindelijk in Nijmegen heeft kunnen passen en kopen. Hij stond haar zó waanzinnig! Het stoere leren jasje met tekst achterop is een DIY.  Net als de gigantische macramé achter de taart trouwens. Yay voor creatieve bruiden! Thijs zijn te gekke pak kocht hij bij Tailor in Utrecht. Check ook zijn kleur das, hoe cool! Groen is zo’n originele keuze en het matchte zo goed met alles. Voor al het prachtige bloemwerk hadden ze Judith Slagter ingeschakeld. Ook zo’n schot in de roos want wat paste alles fantastisch bij elkaar. Lief detail; Charlotte heeft heel goed gekeken naar de bloemen die haar moeder en haar schoenmoeder in hun boeket hadden toen zij trouwden, en liet deze bloemen ook in háár boeket verwerken. Een soort van ‘something borrowed’.. Te gek zulke details.

De ceremonie was gewoon perfect met prachtige persoonlijke geloften naar elkaar en adembenemend mooie arrangementen door goede vriend Harrold Roeland, gezongen door het koor ‘Vlechtwerk’. Na de ceremonie trok iedereen lekker naar buiten en werden we al snel vermaakt door Blaas of Glory. Wat was dit fantastisch! Deze heavy metal marching band speelt vaak op festivals, maar ook vaak achter de schermen ter vermaak van de artiesten. Charlotte trad eerder al eens met ze op, vandaar dat ze nu bij uitzondering ook een bruiloft rockten! Alle gasten gingen helemaal los en mijn collega fotograaf Hendrik en ik liepen rond met een giga smile op onze gezichten 🙂 Zonnetje erbij, 100% genieten! Ook het eten was natuurlijk goed geregeld. De geweldige hysterisch-kunstige taart kwam van Life of Pie. En natuurlijk zit ook hier weer een spannend detail in verwerkt: De Whisky waarmee Charlotte haar lief ten huwelijk vroeg! Een 10 jaar oude Laphroaig “Laphroaig 10yo”. Heftig spul! (De bakkers bij Life of Pie sloegen naar eigen zeggen steil achterover van schrik toen ze de fles openden die het bruidspaar ze had gestuurd 🙂 ) Buiten waren de foodtrucks inmiddels ook geïnstalleerd en terwijl wij buiten en op de prachtige zolder van de kathedraal gingen shooten, genoten de gasten alvast van het heerlijke eten dat de foodtrucks serveerden. Heerlijke salades en veganistische burgers bij Rammenas en overheerlijke spelt pannekoeken (met Nutella, slagroom en aardbeien – nomnomm!) bij Spelty. Vega fastfood op z’n best 🙂
